Day 11 To Clearwater

We headed west and then south along The Yellow Head Highway on a journey of some 350km, crossing back into British Columbia and losing one hour with the change of time zone. A journey which would take most of the day including several stops.

Partially following the Canadian Pacific Train Line, on which we'd travelled east a week ago, our first glimpse of a train was at Yellow Head Lake just outside Jasper. The familiar horn audible from across the lake.

The scenery whilst we were driving was stunning as usual and the roads wide,  straight and quiet.

Moose Lake was situated right by the highway and we stopped for a quick photo.

Further down the road, a 15 minute walk took us to Overlander Falls, named after a group of 175 men and one woman who, in 1862, travelled overland from Ontario to reach the newly discovered gold fields of central British Columbia. The usual route then was via the tip of South America.

Then on to Mount Robson Park where there is a visitor centre, cafe and gift shop

Mount Robson is the highest peak in the Rockies at 3,954m. We were luck to see most of it!

and the Klapperhorn mountain which is 2,301m along with a perfectly placed  "Canadream" campervan. There are a huge number of these on the roads. Their slogan is "experience Canada at your own pace", we are doing just that!

Our next stop was at Rearguard Falls, a very impressive and loud waterfall with beautiful green/blue water.

There were a group of white water rafters who had a novel way of going around the falls and getting their raft back into the water!

A good spot for a selfie,

then on towards Tete Jeune Cache and some more stunning scenery

Stopped at the side of the road for our picnic with a view.

We passed lots of roadworks today, with some interesting signals. The road was being re-tarmacked...doing a proper job unlike in the U.K

Stopped in Clearwater for some shopping, very different housing to Jasper

There were lots of ski runs visible from the town

Just outside Clearwater we only had to wait a few minutes for the train to pass through luckily!

A 30 minute drive from Clearwater, partly up a dirt track, brought us to our cabin for the next two night at The Alpine Meadow Resort.

A nice lake view from our cabin. We were told to watch out for bears which roam nearby and some nesting turtles on the lake shore. Let's see if we manage to spot anything...
