Day 12 To Wells Gray Provincial Park

We woke early because of the hours time difference and had a pre breakfast wander around the Alpine Meadow site. Our cabin is in a beautiful spot.

Took a few photos

Breakfast is included in our stay and was served at the Boathouse Restaurant

We then drove back along the dirt track, upon which we had arrived yesterday, towards Clearwater. Spotted a deer drinking from a pothole on the road and had plenty of time to stop and take photos, he wasn't in the least bit bothered!

We turned left at an actual roundabout, the second that we've seen this holiday, driving north along the Clearwater Valley Road with it's many waterfalls along the way.

Our first stop was at Spahats Falls with a drop of nearly 73m. Spahats is the First Nations word for bear.
The walk down to the falls was a familiar one of cool, pine scented air, so clean and fresh that there are lots of different lichens and fungi.

It's hard to show the scale on photos but the canyon is over 300m deep with a 73m waterfall, just looked up Cheddar Gorge and it's nearly 400ft deep, some difference. It's obviously a Canadian sized gorge!

We then drove along The Clearwater Valley, though it wasn't very clear that's for sure, very misty in the drizzly rain

Stopped at Third Canyon (nothing to look at for the First and Second!)

We then drove to Green Mountain Tower via another dirt track with interesting pothole signage

they're obviously big enough to swallow a car in Canada!

The tower looked good but the views were a bit disappointing

the trees have grown to tall and obscured the views, the poor visibility didn't help either.

We arrived at Dawson Falls in heavy rain, so ate our picnic in the car. Then, as it was still raining, we headed on up to Helmcken Falls, where we would then be turning around to re trace our route back to Alpine Meadow, hoping that the rain would stop.

Helmcken Falls were discovered in1913 and are 141m high by 23m wide.

Absolutely spectacular, noisy and very chilly. By now I was wearing a puffer jacket, hat and a kagool! Freezing! But still, on holiday, so sticking with the shades!

Then we began the drive back. Stopping at Mushbowl Falls which have a bridge over them.

Then Dawson Falls, a mere 18m high but 107m wide , which we managed to walk to in the dry

and some more fungi

Back in town we topped up with petrol ready for our long journey to Whistler tomorrow where we'll spent 4 nights. Going to have a relaxing evening at our cabin in the forest.
