Day 17 Journey to Vancouver Island

We packed up the car, filled up with petrol and headed south along The Sea To Sky Highway in glorious sunshine, with some equally glorious views

bound for Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal. This was around 90 minutes drive so we had plenty of time for some interesting stops along the way.

The first view point was the impressive Tantalus Outlook

Then we stopped in the town of Squamish for a wander up and down the main high street, surrounded by mountains and filled with independent shops and eateries, had a quick cafe stop and watched the world go by from our outside table.

Then drove on to Shannon Falls, yet another spectacular sight!

had our photo taken by a guy who had just proposed to his girlfriend (after Neil had taken some photos for them).

Two more quick photo stops, firstly at Britannia Beach,

then at Porteau Cove

We made the mistake of following the satnav to the port and had to loop back around for an extra 10 minutes drive as that entry point was for foot passengers only!

Had our picnic in the car whilst waiting for the ferry and then boarded pretty much on time. It's very strange to be back in civilization, with crowds and lots of traffic. Definitely no mountains either, just in the background.

We set sail on the 1hour 40 minute trip, the water was very calm but we could still hear the occasional car alarm being set off.

Goodbye to Vancouver

and hello to Nanaimo

where, once disembarked, we headed south to Victoria, a drive of 1 hour 40 minutes. Our base for the next 3 nights is a fourth floor apartment in China Town

After dinner and a brief wander around we watched the sunset from our balcony. Looking forward to our few days here.
