Day 2 - Exploring Vancouver

We were woken around 4am by some very chirpy birds in the trees just outside our bedroom window. The day lengths here are pretty similar to the UK as we're on near enough the same latitude.

After some cereal we walked towards Downtown Vancouver and the harbourside, by leaving just after 7am the streets were cool and quiet in the morning sunshine. We watched the sea planes coming and going.

Afterwards we wandered around to the harbour where a large cruise ship, The Queen Elizabeth, was in dock.

There were lots of interesting buildings to photograph as we headed inland a little and stopped for "second breakfast" before joining our guided tour.

Our guide was full of knowledge and very enthusiastic so we had a most enjoyable 3 hours. Apparently many buildings are used in films, the top building above was used as "The Daily Planet" office in Superman

By the end we were all feeling rather hot and tired!

After checking in for our journey tomorrow on the Rocky Mountaineer we enjoyed a lunch in the same hotel overlooking the cruise ship.

Refreshed by lunch and a rest we headed towards Stanley Park along the seawall and past some very expensive looking yachts and houseboats. Neil quickly realised that he'd left his cap in the hotel but was unable to find it so had to buy a new one as the sun was far too strong to go hatless!

After a wander around Stanley Park, an ice cream and a drink we were ready to head back. Ended up walking back after trying unsuccessfully to find  a taxi. By the end of the day we'd done 29, 000 steps!

Luckily 2 days on the train will mean a nice rest for our feet.

By the way, hat found in the rucksack!

  1. I am glad you are having a good time over there with so many interesting places and nice hot weather too. Sorry I missed your arrival but I was not feeling too good; however, Owen came down on Thursday so I am being well looked after with the help also of Helen. Xx
