Day 3 On the Rocky Mountaineer train to Kamloops

Our early morning dawn chorus alarm call worked well. We had a taxi booked for 6.45am to take us to the railway station. Part way there Neil realised that his cap (along with my hat and a couple of jumpers) had made another bid for freedom! Headed back to our Airbnb where we'd left them on the front porch.

The whole Rocky Mountain experience is very slick and well organised, our luggage is taken ahead to our hotel room and on arrival in Kamloops the coaches to transfer us to our hotel are lined up exactly with our train coach . There are 3 staff  per carriage of 50 guests. 

In Vancouver, The reception area was vast, as was the train, which can have up to 32 coaches.

We were piped aboard and headed east for the 225 mile journey to Kamloops. The train is very spacious and comfortable, affording us great views through its large windows. Unfortunately the weather was cloudy with some occasional rain. Apparently its sunny pretty much all the time in Kamloops, just not today! Though the temperature was in the high 20's when we arrived.

We were well fed and watered along the way, the food was tasty and the drink plentiful!

Really tricky to choose a selection of photos from the day. It's tough being on holiday!

We learned about the construction of the railway and the indigenous people whose land it crossed. The views were impressive and we saw plenty of eagles and osprey. Everyone seems to wave as we went past.

We have a night in our hotel,, which isn't in the prettiest of places but we had a nice pizza sat up at the bar.

 

 Our room backs on to an indoor swimming pool which will hopefully shut soon as we need  to be up at 5.15am for 5.50am departure on the bus back to the train as we head to Banff. 

We have walked less than 2,000 steps today after yesterday's mammoth amount.
