Day 9 Local lakes and a trip on the Jasper Sky Tram
It was cool with low cloud and no sign of yesterday's rain as we headed out to Lake Beauvert in the car, a journey of just over 10 minutes.
Part way around the lake is The Jasper Park Lodge, built in the 1920's, it's still a very exclusive place to stay and has a guest list including The Late Queen, Bing Crosby and Marilyn Monroe. It also has a fabulous, if expensive, golf course that Neil would have enjoyed playing a round on. He had to make do with a drink at the club house, getting more than he bargained for with a can of vodka soda rather than the soft drink he thought that he'd ordered. No wonder it seemed expensive! The staff thought it quite amusing and happily gave him a free orange soda.
and around Lake Annette, where, believe it or not, there were mountains
The water was clear and every now and then there were glimpses of the surrounding mountains
During our walk through the cool, pine scented forest, we saw elk, some very noisy squirrels, marmots and a variety of birds
Suitably refreshed we continued our walk to the shore of Lake Edith
Back to the car, we had our picnic with a view overlooking Lake Beauvert
Then drove the 10 minutes to The Jasper Sky Train, (aka gondola) which took us to Whistler's Mountain
From the gondola station it was around an hours walk to the summit, which at 2,464m still had a fair amount of snow on it.
We then had an evening stroll to work off our lovely dinner at a Mexican restaurant.
All looks lovely scenery and lots to see. Look forward to next episode.
