Day 21 Homeward Bound

We packed everything up for the final time on this trip and drove to China Town to visit Dr Sun Yat-Sen's classical Chinese garden. Found it, only to realise that it's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays!

We then walked towards Gas Town, taking a wrong turn and going through some very deprived areas. Sadly poverty is in evident in every city, I guess. The surrounding areas are contrastingly very affluent with office workers, city types and cafe culture. We had a drink by the waterfront harbour in one of those cafes. Visiting The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, which had some beautiful stained glass but was being used for prayer so didn't take any photos, before returning to the car and driving the few minutes to Granville Island.

Wandered around the market where you could easily do a weeks shop, if you weren't going home.

Then to the marina

and lunch at The Tap and Barrel

After lunch we walked around the island. Spotting these seals who were very interested in today's catch.

Gardens which extended under the bridge

Views over to Vancouver

with the very oddly shaped building that we could see from Stanley Park almost 3 weeks ago,

and some house boats.

After an ice cream, followed by a drink over looking the marina on the terrace of the Tap and Barrel, we walked back to the car and drove to the airport. The traffic was as congested as yesterday and we were glad that we'd left plenty of time. Returning the car to Avis was a breeze. Fortunately the journey home was straight forward and smooth. Looking forward to sleeping in our own bed.
