Day 13 A day at Danum Valley
Up at 6 a.m. this morning for a canopy walk.
The canopy walkway was a bit more sturdy than the one in Mulu
No sign of any orangutan but we saw a few birds and had some lovely scenery
Neil went on the first portion of the walk with half of the group. A real trek through the jungle, including our first sighting of a leach! The swimming pool was lovely but contained some nibbley fish.
I caught up on the blog, sat on our balcony enjoying the warmth, listening to the birds in the trees and to the insects. Saw some red leaf monkeys in the trees as well.
After lunch and bit of a siesta we went on another guided walk and managed to see an orangutan. His name is Lexi and he's around 12 years old (identified from Neil's pictures.) We were very lucky to see one, the Danum Valley covers 438 square km and reckon that there are 800 to 900 orangutans in the area.
We'll need to dry out our damp clothes as tomorrow we make the 6 hour drive to Sandakan where we spend our last night in Borneo.
We had a leisurely pre dinner beer whilst catching up on the blog and watching the rain.
Steak and cold roast potato salad, which seemed a bit odd but tasted good!
There was some after dinner entertainment, which eventually managed to perform when the rain abated.
Love the portrait of Lexi. Too many tree top walks, rain and humidity for me 🤣
