Day 2 Boat trip to Bako National Park
We were woken early by tropical rain, apparently the tail end of super typhoon Yagi that hit Vietnam a couple of days ago.
In the evening the group headed down to the waterfront where we took lots of photos, no surprise there! It was very atmospheric with the sunset call to prayer echoing across the water.
Followed by dinner at a small local restaurant. Not the smartest looking place, but some very tasty (and spicy) food. We eat very well and cheaply over here. Our dinner plus drinks came to just over £6 for the two of us. Followed by an ice cream on our way back to the waterfront at 40p, bargain!
After a good breakfast we were taken by minibus to the national park, about an hours drive, rush hour traffic is the same everywhere it seems.
The rains continued, but after half an hour it began to ease so we headed down river in small boats.
Past very colourful rocks
In the park we saw proboscis monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, a viper, a flying lemur, some hairy pigs, very speedy crabs and some vivid red dragon flies. Most of the wildlife images are from Neil's camera!
A walk through the local night market, bustling with locals and food stalls.
A few more photos followed by a light show in front of the civic offices rounded off a lovely day nicely.
Tomorrow we will say farewell to Kuching, city of cats and fly to Mulu where it's very unlikely that we'll have any internet, so probably no updates for a couple of days.
