Day 8 Visit to Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary en route to Sepilok

We had what could be described as an interesting night in the long house, not much sleep. It was very humid, but too difficult to sleep with the fan on. Obviously we had to make a couple of trips to the toilet, which necessitated getting dressed under cover of our mossie nets and a creep along the corridor on squeaky bamboo past everyone's rooms. So a bit of a palava.

Woken at 5 a.m by the call to prayer, closely followed by the local dogs barking, so no need of an alarm. Everyon ready to leave by 6 30am.

Managed to get a lovely panoramic photo of the tea plantation and some photos of the lily pond in the early morning light.

We drove for 5 minutes to the tea plantation restaurant where we'd had dinner last night but we're too early for breakfast! So another few photos!

Then a tour of the tea factory. Silent today as it's Sunday. No photos allowed except for a quick one at the entrance.

Ahead of us was an all day drive to the eastern part of Sabah, the roads were pretty bumpy with a mix of modern and old housing in villages strung out along the roadside.

Graffiti and littering happens here too

Dense jungle gave way to Palm oil plantations

We arrived at the proboscis monkey sanctuary, the humidity and heat has definitely gone up a notch!

And some of Neil's pics.

Then to The Rainforest Discovery Centre, my photos are purely scenery.

Neil got some great shots of an orangutan Mum and baby though.

Our room at Sepilok Jungle Resort isn't the best, tired and dated would be a fair summary.

The grounds are lovely and our dinner was tasty.

Off to bed early to catch up on some sleep and tomorrow we don't have to be up until 7.30 a.m when we're off to see Orangutans and Sun Bears, hopefully!
