Day 9 Visit to Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary and Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre
We had a leisurely start to the morning after a good nights sleep. Though we were glad of our travel pillows as the ones provided were rock hard!
Breakfast wasn't that exciting but we did try some fruit called Rambutan, sweet with the texture of a grape
We walked the half a mile up to the Orangutan sanctuary. Had to leave everything except for cameras in lockers. No water bottles which was hard work in the humidity. Got some good photos though
There was a vast number of humans partly due to the Public Holiday
Then we walked over to see the Sun Bears, after a cold drink in the cafe. This was my best photo by far.
Headed back for lunch. chicken noodle soup for me which was great. Neil had Maryland chicken and chips, not so good!
We had a relaxing afternoon and went for a swim in the pool. The water was a bit murky, like all the tap water in Borneo. At least you could smell the chlorine! Didn't stop me getting 2 more bites though. 😟
After dinner we went on a night walk. Not the same as in Mulu. It was so humid that we were all dripping within a few minutes! Two hours of walking in a sauna with midges wasn't exactly what we expected. Neil has a few photos. My camera certainly wasn't up to the task.
Everyone was glad to finish. So far I think that we've escaped more bites, fingers crossed!
We leave at 9.30 a.m for a lodge alongside the Kinabatangan River where we'll be staying for two nights. A relaxed start to the day.
