Day 5 Visit ancient capital Polonnaruwa. To Kandy via a spice garden
After a good breakfast we drove for about 30 minutes to the ancient capital of the Sinhalese. There are many ancient relics and ruins dating from 1000 years ago. Many were defaced during the South Indian invasion.
The latest fashion, temple socks and sandals to walk between sites!
A Stupa
The Rock temple, all made from a single rock
Lunch cooked by local women, they're great at curry, but the sandwiches weren't recommended
The spice garden where we learnt about Sri Lankan spices and Ayurvedic medicines
After a lovey foot massage for me, neck and shoulder massage for Neil with some of the Ayurvedic remedies and the compulsory walk throughthe gift shop, where we bought a roasted curry spice mix, we boarded the bus and drove the 1 hour 30 minutes up through the mountains to the outskirts of Kandy.
The traffic was far more city like
Past a Hindu Temple
One of the many colourful buses
We arrived at our hotel in the early evening and have a lovely room with this great view
No-one fancied curry and rice, or indeed rice and curry, so we all had something completely different. Pizzas for us!
