Day 7 Free day in Kandy

This morning we had a bit of a lie in....not sure how we managed to sleep through the dawn chorus!
After a good breakfast we had a short guided bus tour of the town and were dropped off to spend the day as we wished.

Firstly we went to the fish and meat markets. There were far more flies than fish, the smell was none too pleasant either!

We walked through the underpass with it's colourful murals

and into the fruit and veg market. Incredibly hot and humid inside as it had a metal roof. The stall holders were friendly and chatty.

passing the clock tower at the centre of town

a view of the Buddah statue upon the hill

and a tuk tuk car park

On to the clothes market which was certainly not hassle free, so we walked straight through and on into the shopping mall (with air-conditioning!)
After a cool down we took some photos at the lakeside. Lots of bird life nesting in very close proximity to the hustle and bustle of Kandian life.

We then went into the Queen's Hotel, an old colonial hotel, for lunch

Sprout water anyone? We had a beer, butter chicken with chips and salad each and two bottles of sprout water all for around £17

It was an interesting place with old photos and a little museum, some of our group joined us there.

We then had a short walk a bit further around the lake to the Queen's Bath built for the last Queen of Sri Lanka in the early 1800's

We then got a tuk tuk back to the hotel, there was a bit of confusion about which hotel as there are two with very similar names!
After a bit of a rest we both had massages which were great, feeling very relaxed we had a lovely swim followed by dinner on the restaurant's terrace listening to a saxophonist playing chilled music.
