Day 16 A day up in the mountains

This morning began bright and sunny, we could see from down in the village that it would be great to spend a day up in the mountains and planned to make full use of our lift passes!

Blackcomb gondola took us to 2,240m , where there was some low cloud which soon lifted

to reveal views down into Whistler

We then took the Peak To Peak Gondola, opened in 2008. Which at 2.73 miles long is the world's longest, highest continuous lift system. A quite a spectacular 11 minute ride from Blackcomb Mountain to Whistler Mountain at a height of 2,181m.

Once at the top we could see the Cloudraker Sky Bridge in the distance at some 2,200m high

Took some photos before walking that way

and taking the Peak Express chair lift to the final summit

We enjoyed walking over The Cloudraker Sky Bridge, opened in 2018, though it was quite wobbly it gave us some amazing views.

At the far end was another spectacular structure called Raven's Eye

affording great views back to Whistler

We then walked back to the chair lift via more spectacular scenery.

Had our picnic at the summit of Whistler Mountain with a lovely view.

Back at Blackcomb Mountain we did a couple of the Alpine walks with equally spectacular scenery, captured some wildlife photos too.

A steep climb took us to the snow line.

The red tinge on the snow is from a snow algae.
Back at the gondola we finished our lovely day in the mountains by having a beer with a view before heading back to Whistler.

Followed by a delicious meal out on our last night here.

We'll be travelling to Vancouver Island tomorrow.

  2. Not sure I could have done all those lift systems and definitely not the bridge, but wish I had the nerve!!! Looks fantastic.
